GIANCARLO DE LA GASCA, LL.M.

MANAGING PARTNER

Giancarlo de la Gasca is a specialist in Intellectual Property and Litigation with over 16 years of related experience. He has worked at intellectual property law firms in El Salvador and the United States. He is Licensed by the Supreme Court as a Lawyer and as a Notary Public.

His practice includes not only working at a major Salvadoran law firm, but also being in-house counsel and Head of the Registration and Intellectual Property Department for a Regional Bank, later acquired by CITI Group.

Thereafter he joined a regional law firm as Head and founder of the IP practice group, where he was included for the first time in the Latin American Edition of Chambers & Partners (2008) as a recommended IP lawyer for El Salvador.

Mr. de la Gasca has been ranked by Chambers & Partners as a Leading Intellectual Property Attorney (2008, 2015 – 2016), and has been recognized by Who’s Who Legal and Latin Lawyer’s independent research as one of the 37 leading Intellectual Property attorneys for Central America, while still under the age of 40.

He further obtained his LL.M. in Intellectual Property (with honors) from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, due to a scholarship awarded by the Inter American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI).

During his time in the U.S. he worked as Foreign Trademark Specialist (2009 – 2010) at a well-respected Chicago-based IP boutique law firm, and subsequently retook his practice in El Salvador by joining a Salvadoran Midsized legal firm as partner.

At the beginning of 2013, Giancarlo takes the decision to pursue his ultimate goal and found the first Salvadoran Boutique Law Firm dedicated to Intellectual Property and Litigation.

Giancarlo has served as adjunct professor of Intellectual Property, Contract Law and Commercial Litigation at the University Jose Matias Delgado.

In addition, Mr. de la Gasca is one of the few Arbitrators that are certified by the Salvadoran Chamber of Commerce as well as the Interamerican Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI), specifically for Intellectual Property Arbitration.

Most recently, he received the honor of being proposed as a Candidate to Alderman for the City Hall of San Salvador, in the past elections held on March 2015.

His experience of practicing law in a Latin American jurisdiction added to his study and experience of IP Law in the U.S., provides him a significant advantage over his peers when it comes to understanding the legal needs of foreign clients.

Giancarlo is Board member of Asociación Compromiso, a non-profit entity where he develops pro-bono work in favor of his community.

Also, he is permanent legal advisor to Hogar Padre Vito Guarato, a non-profit entity that takes care and shelters children with disabilities, abandoned by their parents. There he was named Honorary Member in recognition to the legal work he has given to the institution.
